Yummie Oatmeal Cookies

1/2 cup butter, softened

1/2 cup vegetable shortening

1    cup packed light brown sugar

1    cup granulated sugar

2    eggs, slightly beaten

1/2  cup buttermilk

2    cups all purpose flour

1    tsp. baking soda

1    tsp. salt

1    tsp. baking powder

1    tsp. cinnamon.

 

1/4 tsp. ginger

1/4 tsp. nutmeg

1/4 tsp. cloves

3    cups quick-cooking oatmeal

1    cup raisins

1 1/2 cups chopped walnuts

1    tsp. vanilla

 

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.  Sift flour, soda, salt, baking powder, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and cloves together.  Cream together  butter, shortening and sugars.  Add eggs,  vanilla and buttermilk; mix well. Stir in sifted flour.  Add  oats, raisins and walnuts and mix until just combined. 

Drop by teaspoons onto baking sheets, leaving two inches between cookies.  Bake until brown around edges, about 8 to 10 minutes.  Cool and store in airtight container.
